How to be in tune with your body as the center of farm operations

This wellness tip comes from Bekah Kropp, Education Specialist at Big River Farms

As a farmer you are the center of operations on the farm. You use your body daily to care for the land and tend to your crops. It is so important to be in tune with your body and maintain body awareness. This can be hard when you are busy operating a farm. I encourage you to try this simple mindfulness meditation practice, called the body scan

Here are the steps to practice this meditation at home…

Step 1

Find a comfortable, quiet space to sit or lie down

Step 2

Breathe deeply and tune into how your body is feeling that day

Step 3

Notice and pay attention to any sensations in the body without any judgment

Step 4

Move your attention slowly through all parts of the body. If your mind starts to wander to other places, without judgment, move your attention back to the body and breath.

This meditation practice can be as long or as short as you want it to be. Simply taking a few moments in your day to check-in with yourself can help maintain more bodily awareness and presence in your life. If you find this practice works well for you it could eventually become a relaxing evening routine that could grow into other relaxing, mindful habits.
